A glorious chapter was added to the annals of Indian Railways with the addition of Khajuraho on the rail map of the country. Union Minister of Railways Lalu Prasad Yadav recently inaugurated the new railway line between Khajuraho and Mahoba. On this occasion, a special train Khauraho-Jhansi Link Express was also flagged off.
Khajuraho, the erstwhile capital of Chandela dynasty is better known for its erotic sculptures, which have caught the attention of the world. Thousands of tourists flock to this place to see the unique spectacle of unity in diversity. Khajuraho had got a unique place in the country for the international tourists as their journey was incomplete without paying a visit to this place. The 9th to 12th century temples of Khajuraho prove the architectural genius of the Chandela age. The place oozes with passion, eroticism, dance and music and other finesses of creative arts depicted in sculpture and images of the temples.
Until now, there was no direct train to Khajuraho. Tourists had to reach this place by arriving from nearest station of Jhansi, Mahoba or Satna. The most convenient was Jhansi, which is linked to Delhi and other major northern cities. Satna was another convenient railway head on the Allahabad-Mumbai route from which people took bus to reach Khajuraho.
However, now the passenger Khajuraho-Jhansi Link Express would leave Khajuraho at about 12.30 hrs and reach Jhansi at 17.00 hrs. During the return journey, train number 229A Jhansi-Khajuraho would leave Jhansi at 07.25 hrs and reach Khajuraho at 12.10 hrs. A new train between Nizamuddin and Khajuraho is also slated to be started soon. This tri-weekly having number 2447A would leave Khajuraho at about 18.15 hrs every Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and reach Nizamuddin next day at 05.25 hrs. The train from Hazrat Nizamuddin having number 2448A would leave the station at about 09.35 hrs and terminate at Khajuraho at about 07.50 hrs. The train would go through the route of Khajuraho, Mahoba, Jhansi, Gwalior, Agra Cannt before terminating at Nizamuddin.
