English skills of Japanese Prime Minister

This is a true story from the Japanese Embassy in US!!! (No offenses to anyone, please…)

A few years ago, Japanese Prime Minister Mori was given some basic English conversation training before he visits Washington and meets then US President Bill Clinton…

The instructor told Mori: “When you shake hands with Bill Clinton, please say ‘HOW ARE YOU’. Then Mr. Clinton would reply, ‘I AM FINE, AND YOU?’ Now, you should say ‘ME TOO!’. Afterwards we, the translators, will do the remaining conversation for you.”

It looks quite simple, right? But the truth is something else. Check it out below….

When Mori actually met Clinton, he said by mistake, “WHO ARE YOU?” (instead of the protocol ‘HOW ARE YOU?’)

Mr. Clinton was a bit shocked but still managed to react with humor: “Well, I’m Hillary’s husband, ha-ha…”

Then Mori replied: “ME TOO, HA-HA…”

:) Then there was a long silence in the meeting room… … … :)
