In my last article (Make big money from affiliate marketing), I discussed affiliate marketing and what is the commission structure of common affiliate programs. Though it is important that you pay attention to the commission structure, it is more important and crucial as to how you exploit this affiliate opportunity. What I mean by this is, you may be subscribed to many top affiliates, but if you don’t know how to better utilize their links on your sites, you may be lagging behind. Thats precisely the reason why I am now talking about placement of advertisements (or links) in your site and how important it is to multiply your revenues.
Google AdSense has already provided a basic (and proven) framework of relationship between placement of your ads and the eyeballs they receive and thus revenue (You can read it at AdSense Help). Well, I have gone through it but I wanted more, as usual. So on my franatic search, I came across this wonderful article: “Where your ad appears on a site counts very much“. Here is my take on this article… Ads can appear anywhere on the page – at the top, bottom, either sides or even in the center. But choosing the right time and place for an ad depends a lot on the type of your site. Also, where your ad appears on a site counts almost as much as what you say in the ad. There can be 2 broad categories of sites: sales sites and content sites. For Sales sites, ads should be carefully placed so as not to draw the visitors away from the site before conversion (i.e. sale of product / service). For Content sites, you have a little more flexibility in placing your ads. Content is your hook for bringing these customers back, so ads should not crowd out the content on the site.
Important tip: In some cases, product comparisons are a good example to present your ads as content! For example, you compare the price of the latest Harry Potter novel on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Half.com; you can show price quotes from your affiliate links! Your readers get what they are looking for – price comparison – and you may end up getting the commission!
